AB 56 This bill prohibits advertising for prescription drugs. The prohibition does not apply to an advertisement that is broadcast from or is mailed or shipped to the ultimate recipient of the advertisement from outside this state or to advertising sent directly to pharmacists or to practitioners who are authorized to prescribe prescription drugs.

AB 100 This bill provides that under an individual health insurance policy, an insurer may impose a preexisting condition exclusion for up to one year for a condition for which an insured received treatment, or for which treatment was recommended, within one year before the insured’s coverage began. AB 108 The bill adds the rescission of a policy or certificate and a coverage denial determination based on a preexisting condition exclusion to the types of adverse decisions that are eligible for review under a group or individual health benefit plan’s independent review procedure. In addition, the bill requires every insurer that issues individual health benefit plans to report to the commissioner annually the number of individual health benefit plans issued by the insurer in the preceding year and the number of individual health benefit plans with respect to which the insurer initiated or completed a cancellation or rescission in the preceding year. AB 111 This bill retains $1,000,000 as the minimum lifetime limit of benefits under HIRSP but allows the HIRSP Authority to increase that lifetime limit. Companion bill SB 73

AB 112 Persons who are eligible for coverage under HIRSP on the basis of being denied coverage by a private insurer must have been denied coverage by two or more insurers. This bill changes that criterion for eligibility to a denial of coverage by one or more insurers. Companion bill SB74

AB 118 Under this bill, a health insurer must offer to cover any child of an insured if the child is unmarried, is under 27 years old, and is not eligible for coverage under a group health benefit plan that is provided by his or her employer and for which his or her premium contribution is no greater than the premium amount for his or her dependent coverage under his or her parent’s health insurance plan. Additionally, if the child is a full−time student but previously had his or her education interrupted by service in the national guard or reserves, the health insurer must offer dependent coverage for that child for as long as he or she is a full−time student, regardless of age. AB 179 This bill removes the requirement that a person must serve the notice of a claim for medical malpractice on the attorney general or on a volunteer fire company, political corporation, or governmental subdivision and its officers, employees, or agents within 180 days after the injury.
